A new version of TinyUmbrella, the tool that allows you to take backups of SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) to let you downgrade to older iOS versions has been released to include support for iOS 5.0.1.

Apple had released iOS 5.0.1 last week to fix some of the bugs that was affecting iPhone’s battery life.

It may be a good idea to take a backup of SHSH blobs, even though Apple has made it difficult to downgrade to an older version of iOS 5.x using SHSH blobs in iOS 5.

Even though there is still no working solution for restoring 5.x on iPhone 4S I have released a 5.01.00 so you can at least save 5.0.1 SHSH. I have added tentative support for at least saving 5.0.1 SHSHs for iPhone 4S but as of now we are unable to use them fully.

You can download the latest version of TinyUmbrealla from Semaphore’s blog. Continue reading “Tiny Umbrella Updated To Support iOS 5.0.1” »

A developer has found some code in iOS 5.0.1 that references both Jabber and AIM. This likely means that iChat integration may be coming to theiPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

A tweet from developer John Heaton has linked to some code found in iOS that references two chat protocols that are available in iChat.

Despite the direct references to Jabber and AIM, it is possible that it is part of a larger instant message service framework that would work with an iChat-like app, which integrates many different protocols in iOS. Continue reading “iChat Service References Found In iOS 5” »
